Today is my birthday.
And I want to write this one down while I’m feeling it.
Because the last few months have been a blur. Emails. Builds. Launches. Late nights. More websites, more apps, more ideas than I can keep in one head. I’ve been using AI like crazy, and I’ve been building like crazy.
But when I stopped this morning and actually thought about what today means, none of that was the first thing on my mind.
The first thing was this:
I’m alive. And my mom and dad are alive.
That’s it. That’s the whole headline.
Not everybody gets this
I know too many people who don’t get to call their mom on their birthday anymore. Too many people who would give anything for one more conversation with their dad.
I still get that. I get to hear their voices today. That’s not something I’m going to pretend is small.
I’ve written before about my mom and the love she put into her craft in Threads That Bind, and about how filming my dad changed my life in Faith That Wins. Those two people are in everything I build, whether they see their names on it or not.
Blessed is the right word
I don’t use the word “blessed” lightly. I was raised in the pews, and I know what that word is supposed to carry.
It’s not “things are going my way.” It’s “I didn’t earn all of this, and I’m thankful anyway.”
I’ve had seasons that weren’t pretty. I’ve written about some of them here — the quiet rebuild, carrying the weight, learning to wait. I’m still here. I’m still building. And I still have my parents.
So yes. Blessed.
What I want this next year to be
- Keep building — but build things that actually help people.
- Tell more of my story here, the honest version, not the highlight reel.
- Spend more time with the people who were there before any of this existed.
- Keep connecting everything I’m building into one ecosystem that makes sense.
If you’re reading this: thank you. Whether you’ve followed along since the first post or you just found this site today, you’re part of this chapter.
And if your parents are still here — go call them. Today. Don’t wait for a birthday.
Keep exploring the ecosystem
Everything I write here connects back to something I’m building. If you want to see it for yourself, start here:
- My Journey — the whole story, in order
- Boston Made — the parent company, now home to ATLAS business intelligence
- The Boston Made App — one guided tour of the whole family of brands
- Boston Made Pets — where it all started
- Boston Made Newsroom and Boston Made Reader
- Fenway Web — the team that builds our sites (and yours)
- Kingswell Strategic Ventures, BOSSTOX, Pupwear and Lumo
